So I used to go to the gym almost everyday, which wasn’t good for my health or wellbeing. Going to the gym can get addictive and when you go tooo often, you’ll find yourself hating the place (probably more than you already do.) I always say to people, if you’re thinking of joining the gym, go two days a week and then add more days on after time. Don’t go six days a week as it won’t do your body any good and I guarantee you won’t end up going for more than a few weeks.
During exam period, I didn’t go to the gym and I found myself feeling sluggish and horrible. It was when I got an at home fitness coach my life started to drastically change. I was saving time, money and travel. Time is my biggest bug bear, with everything I have going on, funnily enough.. I don’t have much of it. This is where working out at home really helped around my busy schedule.
The only thing I would say is you need to really motivate yourself if you’re working out at home, if you don’t have a trainer then it’s very easy to slip back into old habits. Time yourself every few days and make sure you are keeping to that set time limit or you’ll do the usual thing of going on your phone for three hours.
Change your workout every few weeks, so you challenge your body and see better results.
Listen to your body. Unless you’re taking this to a professional standard, if your body gets tired, don’t train.. if you are poorly.. don’t train. You know when you should or shouldn’t be training.
I look absolutely horrible when I work out and I don’t understand why some people look like they’re going on a night out in the gym. So if you train at home, it’s nice to be in the comfort of your own home without feeling like everyone is watching you.
If you’ve finished exams or taking a break from work over the summer, it may be better to go to a gym to get you out the house and into a different environment, therefore it’s different for everyone.
Another massive factor when exercising is diet. if your diet isn’t great, maybe fix this before going to the gym. Take one challenge at a time. You won’t see the results you desire if your diet isn’t where it needs to be. Having a good diet doesn’t mean never eating chocolate or pizza.. it means finding the balance between eating healthy and treating yourself.
