Instagram definitely has it’s pros and cons. When I was suffering from an eating disorder, Instagram could be extremely toxic.. from comparing yourself to the “perfect image” to the constant diet products being blasted everywhere. It made me really angry.. so I stayed away from it as much as possible.
.. But now I feel like I see Instagram in a lot more positive light. It gives you a chance to reconnect with people and stay in touch.. but most importantly, I feel like i’ve become a lot more accepting of it. For example..
If someone wants to edit their photos.. LET THEM
If people want to promote products you don’t particularly agree with LET THEM.. then maybe unfollow.. up to you, but don’t bring them down.
If people want to buy followers LET THEM
As long as it doesn’t affect you personally, there’s no issues. Just give them a quick unfollow if it’s that annoying.
I honestly believe if people think Instagram is so toxic then just delete it and give people a call rather than a “DM.” (I always call people rather than text and I feel like I annoy people for it, dunno, I’m old school.)
I feel like now we need to be a lot more accepting of who people are and what they post. Everyone is at their own place in their life and is free to make their own decisions. If someone is pursuing a career that maybe out of the norm.. LET THEM. Be encouraging of the quirky things people do, rather than bring them down. People that are unique make the world a lot more of an interesting place.
I feel like it’s time to start letting people do their own thing. Agree with it or not, let’s start bringing people up rather than bringing people down 🙂
